March 14 - A Contrite Spirit

Saturday of the Third Week of Lent

Today's Readings:
Today's Reflection

The readings from Hosea and the psalm tell us that the real sacrifice God desires from us is love and a contrite spirit.  The Gospel reveals the spirits of two men praying in the temple.  The Pharisee seems haughty, separating himself from the rest of the world and reciting his own list of accomplishments.  The tax collector seems reverent, owning his unworthiness before God and opening himself to God’s mercy.  Which spirit does my daily prayer reflect?  Is my sacrifice to the Lord this Lent “love and a contrite spirit”?  I pray for a greater awareness of my dependence on God.
