February 21 - If You’re Sinless, Relax. Otherwise . . .

Today's Reflection

In today’s Gospel (Luke 5:27-32), Jesus sets us an example we dare not ignore: he welcomes sinners and eats with them. One such sinner, Matthew, left his workplace immediately and followed Jesus, sensing that with this man he would find the forgiveness he wanted so badly.

Jesus says he is so busy helping sinners that he can’t attend to people who are without sin. It’s rather sly of Jesus! How many of these wholly righteous people are there? I’m pretty sure I haven’t met any in person (I've never been introduced to Jesus or his mother), and I am very sure I’m not one of them. God has forgiven us all, and our mission is to offer that forgiveness to others.

Paul S.
